2K Brings Onboard Apex Legends Lead to Rescue Troubled Action Game Ambitious Title
2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the anticipated over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Shift Comes After Mixed Reception
The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's lackluster early showing last autumn.
Recently, 2K president a key figure informed staff about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had revealed the requirement for a clearer direction.
The president stated that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a renewed focus, aiming to satisfy community desires.
Trend of Strategic Acquisitions
This announcement echoes a comparable move taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to assist with the beloved franchise development group.
Below is the full text from the president's communication:
Team—
I know you all just wrapped up your town hall - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the positive developments. Last time I shared you all a update, I expressed the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most driven and creative designers we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to persist.”
Given your hard work and versatility, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s the game demo was enlightening. It affirmed the promise of a action-packed game but indicated we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the need for a sharper brand.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the feedback to mind and revamped the title with a renewed direction - one that’s positioned to achieve its promise to our audience.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To advance the outstanding progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to announce the new hire as the new Director of the team. After a period of conversations, Ben starts with us on the specified date.
His guidance and expertise in the competitive gaming space is vast, having dedicated the last 15 years creating and overseeing some of the most well-known franchises in the industry, including the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in receiving Ben in the coming days. We are all eager to persist observing the development of the game in the weeks to come.
David

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the game's pitch explains. "Face the rivals with new abilities, stakes, and challenges that shift every session. Will you safely extract with your hard-earned loot? Or go big, risk it all, and hope your group can earn top ranking? The choice is up to you."
The game has not yet received an announced launch window or consoles, but players can look forward to further news as production progresses.
